Project Description

We were introduced to the owner of this beautiful 18th century mansion by their builder. The owner had bought the house unseen in the middle of lockdown, only visiting months later when restrictions lifted.

The owners initially moved into the east wing of the house while preliminary works started, so the strip out was carried out in stages.

The previous owner had converted the house from Fawlty Towers like hotel to luxury home, using some of the finest brands and materials. However, our client was keen to introduce their own personality to their new home.

DeVol Kitchens were used extensively to create master bedroom wardrobes, pantry (now converted to a utility room in Clapham), boot room and, unusually, a flower arranging room cum laundry. The Roundhouse kitchen has found a new home in Sussex. The magnificent library joinery with earlier 18th century fire surround was carefully dismantled and is now to be incorporated in a refurb in London.

In the hall and kitchen, we recovered around 90 Sqm of Cathedral grade York stone which the previous owner had spent months to amass similarly shaded stone. This is now to become a feature in it’s new Surrey home. The magnificent staircase was replaced with a stone staircase.
