Project Description

This pretty Clapham house’s exterior belies it’s cavernous interior, the result of numerous extensions and excavations. Added to this, in the garden, it had a 3 bedroom cottage.

It’s new owners decided to add to the size with an additional 200 Sqm basement dig while converting the cottage to a swimming pool, complete with new door into the neighbour’s garden, giving easy access to best friend neighbours. Well deserved we feel since it was the neighbour who recommended us!

The previous owner had some experience as an interior designer so had extensively indulged a certain style, not one enjoyed by the new owner. We were approached to assist in two phases, first the main house while the owner spent some months living in the cottage. As the main house progressed we returned to strip out the cottage.

The 9m x 3m sliding doors of the kitchen and matching 4m x 3m doors on the first floor dressing room balcony were an interesting challenge. Each of the 3m x 1m glass panels weighed around 150Kg and awkward to manoeuvre, in particular lowering the first floor panels to the ground.

However, the ancient Egyptians were doing this way before us so ropes, ramps, muscle and perhaps a little help from the Sun god saw them all taken down and depart to their new home in west London.
